Hello Professorial

Ah the joys of auto correct. I just received an email a student sent using his cell phone, and the greeting was “Hello Professorial.”

I like it. Just as “Reverend” is an adjective, rather than a noun, attached to ministers’ names–The Reverend Jim Jones, for an ironic example–I think “Professorial” should be used when addressing college profs, who are indeed, by definition, professorial. “The Professorial James Hanley.” That sounds good.

Even better, if a minister with a Ph.D. can be addressed as “The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King,” surely I can be addressed as “The Professorial Doctor James Hanley.”

One Response to Hello Professorial

  1. Matty says:

Why stop there? In keeping with the styles used by Bishops you should call your head of department the Right Professorial and the head of the college His Academicness.
